Thankful for a Normal Day

Thankful for a Normal Day

Today I felt like I had all my energy back suddenly. I think somehow I woke up this morning and my body forgot to be sick. It is wonderful.

We even managed to turn off the TV today after only two episodes of Dora.

In honor of the wonderfulness that health is, I thought I would list some of the things I am thankful for today.

1)  I have had a great burst of productivity. The kitchen and dining room are clean, swept, and mopped (yeah to the start of disinfecting!) and five loads of laundry are done and put away.

2) We had a great mini-baking day today. Elizabeth requested banana bread and chocolate chip cookies and was kind enough to help me make them (and start to eat them). During this process I might have made the mistake of showing her the fabric for her future apron (since she was wanting mine). She asked me to make it for her right then, so I think I had best get sewing soon.

This batch of cookies did not understand about personal space. Luckily, the other batches were much more respectful.

3) Elizabeth and I got our reading time back. My sore throat meant a lot less (if any) toddler reading time the past few days and we definitely made up for it today. She is so fun to read to and gets so animated. After reading our elephant library book set twice, we crawled around on the floor like elephants using our arms as trunks. She thought it was hysterical.

4) We had some great independent toddler play today. From water painting in her special books, coloring, or playing with her dollhouse toys, Elizabeth drifted in and out from playing with me to playing on her own. This really made my day easier, especially since she didn’t take a nap.

Elizabeth was happy to show off painting with two brushes.

5) A quiet evening. Due to the absence of a nap today, Elizabeth was exhausted and is already asleep. I’m off to knit, watch the latest Vampire Diaries (I’ll admit it), and get to bed early (I don’t want this healthy day to be a fluke).

Making Pillows & Thankful Thoughts For the Week

Making Pillows & Thankful Thoughts For the Week

Very cold weather has set in here this week and we have been bundled up outside or nestled in at home this week. I heard on the news that November may be Oregon’s coldest month this year.

It has been wonderful.

Since I am in such a happy mood, I will do another “5 Things I Am Thankful For This Week” post:

1) I made a new pillow! I am loving it (pun intended). It is a nice weaved cream linen with a red linen heart (attached with iron on applique). I haven’t filled it yet, but as soon as I finish it will be going on my bed (on my side).

I think I am starting to fall in love with applique. Who knew it would be so easy. Next I am going to try to make this Olive You pillow for Duncan’s side of the bed. One day I will start making stuff that isn’t found on Pinterest.

Maybe.

2) Now that she is two and a half, playing with Elizabeth can be really fun.

We have been building block castles. Elizabeth will let me build large/complicated ones and will even wait for me to tell her she can break it down. Clatter, crash. What fun.

3) I am so thankful I have a budding little reader on my hands. We read all of the time and she is showing so many great pre-reading signs. Love it, though I am starting to regret buying a 6 chapter Dora book at the book fair last week (how many more times can I read that one?!).

4) Date Night. Thankful for a wonderful date with my great husband. We had sushi, bought matching new gloves (welcome early Winter!), and went to a friends autumn party. There was adult conversation, uninterrupted dinner and browsing in a store. It was as great as it sounds.

5) There are crunchy leaves on the ground.

Elizabeth spent a few minutes running through these after lunch downtown today. Laughing, running, stomping, and crunching leaves.

I hope everyone else is having thankful and happy fall thoughts this week.

5 Things I’m Thankful For This Week

5 Things I’m Thankful For This Week

1. The local Farmer’s Market has one more week left this season. Hopefully they will have more of the yummy little apples and wine grapes.

2. The painting of the dining room desk and Elizabeth’s new dresser is going well and those projects might actually get done someday.

3. Wonderful in-laws who took Elizabeth to the beach and kept her overnight yesterday just because they wanted to (She had a great time and it let me get the previously mentioned painting done).

4. Rain. I have been listening to it hit our covered patio and it sounds so wonderful.

5. Re-reading a favorite book. Ah, Sense & Sensibility, here I come.

5 Things I’m Thankful For This Week

1. I am finally getting over this cold.

2. We found an adorable winter coat and boots for Elizabeth (she picked out both at separate stores and they still match!).

3. Elizabeth has the cutest little smile (grimace?) on earth. I love that she squints her eyes when she smiles.

4. We are in love with the new green paint color in the kitchen (hopefully there will be a kitchen project post soon).

5. I finally found a little desk (old sewing desk in need of some TLC) that is small enough to fit in the corner of the dining room (and best part is that it was only $4.99). My laptop will hopefully have a stylish new home soon.
